Sleeping Hazards

"What the hell is that?" I say out loud. I try to open my eyes, but I find that they are glued together. Turns out it wasn't really glue...it was the baby's milk bottle had squirted into my eye sometime during the night.

Consciousness and my ability to determine what had woke me up had almost arrived when BAM...the foot of my eight year old son that ALSO still slept in my bed lashed me upside the head. "OOOHHH" I moaned. "Will I EVER get some sleep?"

I can specifically remember the last time I got a full nights sleep. It was July 2nd 1990....now over eighteen years ago. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up and reached out for my drink of Dr. Pepper, that faithful caffeinated drink that is a constant companion. "I need to ask the dr. for sleep meds," I grumble to myself.

Something that I can take that will make me stay asleep while getting a consussion. How about Clonopin? Naaa...that's an anxiety med. Clonodine? Naaa...that's for nerves too... Gabitril??? hmmmm...that's for nerves too. BUT WAIT!! Nerve medications have a side affect of causing drowsiness!!! Hallalejah I am saved!!! I don't have to take the herbal remedy I had stashed somewhere in the house. I can use honest to God prescribed medication and float away to sleepy land.

After all, isn't that what Americans do? If we have a sniffle, we take a pill. If we have a cough we chug some robitusin. If our eyes itch we run to the allergist and get shots. There is no ill that has no pill. That's my motto. Let's keep taking those meds America !!!

No simple remedies for us. After all, we are the home of the free...and that means we are free to stuff whatever we want down our throat for whatever reason we, and our doctors of course, see fit. God Bless America !!!!
